SACRED HEART CHURCH AND SCHOOL ORGANIZATIONS

 

SACRED HEART PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC)

The Sacred Heart Parish Pastoral Council meets monthly. There are four commissions that are the working arms of the pastoral council and parish.  They are the Spiritual Life Commission, the Education Commission, the Parish Life Commission, and the Human Concerns Commission. 

The main purpose of the Education Commission is to assist and evaluate the financial and educational needs of the school and its students, and of the educational needs of young adult and adult communities of the parish.

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) generally meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the School Library.

SACRED HEART FAMILY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (FSA)

The purpose of this school organization is the advancement of Catholic education and welfare of ALL the students of our parish school. Furthermore, the FSA acts to promote parent-school communication and facilitate parent networking. The Family School Association conducts various fundraisers during the year to provide additional funding for equipment, etc., to keep Sacred Heart School a vital Catholic Educational Institution, with quality and excellent education for the twenty-first century..  (Each family is required to annually earn $200.00 + in proceed funds, or pay $200.00 + in lieu of such funding participation.)

The executive board of the Sacred Heart Family School Association consists of its officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer), along with the pastor and the principal.

The pastor, principal, parish council and school committee of Sacred Heart School and Sacred Heart Parish, have the overall responsibility for the parish school and the Sacred Heart Family School Association functions only in conjunction and cooperation with them.

The first FSA meeting of the school year generally follows the Wednesday after Labor Day; this mandatory meeting follows the required Parent/Guardian Orientation presentations. The tentative time is 7:30 P.M.

Three additional mandatory meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. All meetings are held in the School Hall.

SACRED HEART ATHLETIC CLUB

Sacred Heart Athletic Club (SHAC) provides an interscholastic, competitive sports program, as an extension of the Sacred Heart School philosophy and academic program.  It is only open to the children of club members of Sacred Heart School/Parish.  The philosophy of Sacred Heart School includes the education of the WHOLE PERSON the religious, moral, social, and academic dimensions, as well as, physical development. Participants are instructed in the fundamentals of each various sport, and are afforded the opportunity to develop strong, healthy, and disciplined minds and bodies. Participants also develop a sense of good sportsmanship, fair play, and team spirit.

All coaches, teachers, etc. who work directly with children are required to take the Criminal Background Check and Virtus Training.

Although the SHAC officers operate and oversee these programs, all programs are subject to the overall direction and authority of the pastor, by virtue of his office (Archdiocesan Policy); the principal (Archdiocesan Policy); and any additional pertinent policies of the Educational Committee/Commission of the Parish Council.

(The Sacred Heart School principal maintains primary authority over the Athletic Program within the school. The responsibility is shared with the pastor or his designee in any parish-sponsored sports program.)

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the Rectory Basement Hall.

Sacred Heart School maintains an academic eligibility & non-eligibility policy for all student-participants involved in the Athletic Program. 

Criteria:

When a student demonstrates unchristian behavior, shows lack of respect (bad-mouthing), has consistently missing or incomplete assignments or homework, does not attend practices, demonstrates lack of cooperation and effort, does not heed corrections for improvement, fights, acts out in anger, uses obscene words, engages in name calling, intimidates others in word or action, does not play fair, etc.

Decision is made by (1) Teachers at Sacred Heart School; (2) Coach/es of the team.

Duration is week to week.   (Thursday to Thursday)

 

ALTAR AND ROSARY SOCIETY

All women of the parish are invited to become members. The purposes are to unite for prayer with special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, for parish work and activities, for each other, and for strengthening the Sacred Heart Parish community.

Meetings are held in the School Hall on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY

The Holy Name Society invites all men (young and older) of the parish to join. They are bound together by love to honor the Sacred Name of Jesus.

We are grateful to the Holy Name Society for sponsoring Thursday Bingo evenings for the benefit of Sacred Heart School.

Meetings are held in the Rectory Basement Hall on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M.

Other meetings:

BINGO, sponsored by the Holy Name Society, is held every Thursday in the School Hall.

Senior Citizens meet on the first and third Wednesday afternoons in the School Hall.

Vet's Park Improvement Association (V.P.I.A.) meets on the third Wednesday evening of the month in the School Hall.
