PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
In our educational ministry we,
the faculty, are guided by our Christian philosophy, which recognizes both human and
supernatural dimensions. As St. Francis did, we recognize God the Father, as the
Giver of Gifts. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are continually
nourished, by celebrating in the school community the Breaking of the Bread.
WE BELIEVE:
 |
that each child is a unique creation of God, that they
have
been given special talents and abilities, that they are worthy of respect,
love and interest; |
 |
that children differ in their mental, spiritual,
emotional, and physical capacities and patterns of growth; |
 |
that children do not achieve at the same rate, nor in the
same way; |
 |
that since children learn in different ways, there is a
need to adjust teaching to multiple learning styles; |
 |
that a child's capacity and ability varies in subject
areas as evidenced in Standardized Tests; |
 |
that each child has rights and responsibilities as an
individual and likewise as a member of a group; |
 |
that education must provide the tools whereby each
individual will become a self-directed lifelong learner in the fulfillment
of their potential; |
 |
that a strong sense of individual responsibility must be
acquired in the elementary grades, in order that each child may reach
greater fulfillment, be aware of their Christian personhood, and thus be
more sensitive to the problems and expectations of our society in the
twenty-first century; |
 |
that a well-rounded and planned curriculum assists each
student to acquire human knowledge, skills, habits and attitudes necessary
for their moral, spiritual, political, emotional, and physical life; |
 |
that each student be guided toward making mature Christian
judgments; |
 |
that assessment, evaluation, and reporting are continuous
processes in the instructional program; |
 |
that each child must be acutely aware of their American
and Religious heritage as well as their own ethnic culture before they
can understand, appreciate, and respect the cultures and differences of
others; |
 |
that it is the duty of each Christian to learn to love and
worship the Creator, to strive to bear witness to Christ, and to make a
difference in the entire Church in the Christian formation of peace and
justice in the world. |
